Mental Health Awareness week – focus on anxiety

It is well reported that the NHS is facing a mental health crisis, with key findings from their Mental Health of Children and young people in England 2022 report stating, “18.0% of children aged 7 to 16 years and 22.0% of young people aged 17 to 24 years had a probable mental disorder”

Focus Foundation supports mental health initiatives, and recently funded The Wild Mind Project for a course that connects young people with mental health challenges to activities that promote a sense of wellbeing by connecting them to nature and creativity.

Feedback from the young people who attended was so positive: “The program has helped me be social and open with new people” “My mental health has improved as has my knowledge of foraging. I have connected to nature and calmed my anxiety”

The long waiting list for mental health assistance has made projects such as this even more important to the community.
