Empowering youth mental health: CASY's impactful journey with Focus Foundation support

In the realm of youth mental health, initiatives that offer support and guidance are invaluable. This is where CASY (Counselling and Support for Young People) shines brightly, a charity dedicated to enhancing the emotional well-being of children and young individuals. Their recent endeavour, the Suicidal Ideation and Self-Harm Support Project, as funded by our grant, stands as a testament to their commitment and impact.

Initially focusing on addressing the pressing issues of suicidal ideation and self-harm among young people, CASY exceeded expectations in terms of outreach and impact. What began as an effort to see 60 additional individuals turned into support for an impressive 84 young people. Moreover, their anticipated delivery of 480 counselling sessions was surpassed with a remarkable 756 sessions conducted. This surge in activity resulted in a 14.72% increase in individuals seeking help for self-harm and an 8.61% rise in those seeking support for suicidal ideation.

The significance of this project extends beyond the numbers. CASY's dedication and approach encourages individuals to seek ongoing support from other sources, ensuring a holistic approach to their well-being.

Our grant of £6,490 enabled CASY to not only reach more young people but also to dedicate resources specifically to address these critical mental health issues. We’re told that the ripple effect of this support was felt beyond the project itself, positively impacting CASY's overall waiting list and ensuring quicker access to support for other young individuals in need.

In addition to direct support, CASY embarked on the development of training modules focused on Suicidal Ideation and Self-Harm. The validation received in the form of the 'Online Quality Checked CPD Course' stamp from the NCPS (National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society) for these modules signifies a significant milestone. By delivering these modules to counsellors and professionals both within and outside of CASY, they have expanded their reach and enhanced awareness and skills in addressing these critical issues.

The journey of CASY, supported by Focus Foundation, exemplifies the power of collaboration in tackling youth mental health challenges. Through their proactive efforts, they continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young individuals, fostering resilience and well-being in our communities.
