Families with children are increasingly struggling due to the rising cost of living, prompting many communities to turn to charities for support. In our latest round of grants, we focused on funding organisations that offer crucial assistance to families during the Summer, a season that poses significant financial challenges for parents. Additionally, we sought to back initiatives that bring joy and fun to families, helping them create positive memories despite these difficult times.
Join us in spotlighting the following charities, and we will share more about their brilliant community projects and initiatives over the course of the coming months:
Sal’s Shoes - Is an innovative charity recycling and redistributing outgrown shoes in good condition to children across the UK. Our grant of £5,000 will allow the charity to purchase and distribute 500 pairs of school shoes to families living in poverty in and around Kent.
Horsham Matters - Provides a vital lifeline to the Horsham district relieving hardship through the provision of essential services (food, fuel and shelter) in order to make a positive, long-lasting impact on people's lives. Our grant of £4,400 now gives them the chance to provide over 200 poverty-stricken families with £20 supermarket vouchers.
Southwater Youth Project - Supports children and young people in Southwater to reach their full potential and build self-belief by promoting mental wellbeing and fostering positive self-esteem. With a grant of £4,063 they will now be able to fund summer holiday outings for under privileged children in the Horsham district.
BARCO - was established in the summer of 2020 in response to the uprisings and global recognition of the racism Black people face in our societies. This year, they are hosting a vibrant family carnival in Brighton where families and children can enjoy themselves while learning more about diversity in communities and beyond. Focus Foundation granted them £2,900 in support of their children’s parade.
The Crew Club - offers a safe space for children and young adults to explore, create, learn, and challenge themselves, fostering positive changes in their own lives and the wider community. Located in one of the most deprived areas of Brighton & Hove, the club's mission is to provide this secure environment where individuals can thrive and make a meaningful impact. £3,875 will fund outings over the summer holidays for their underprivileged members.
North Kessock Primary School - Situated in North Kessock (in the Highlands of Scotland), this small community Primary with limited funding, serves the village of North Kessock and the surrounding rural area. Our grant of £1,884 will pay for the provision of 8 Chromebooks for children with SEN.
Cumbria Family Support - was established to assist families in Cumbria with children up to eighteen years old who are experiencing need, hardship, or distress. Our grant of £5,790 will fund a much-needed community group for mothers seeking support, running for a duration of one year.
Stormbreak - based in Dorset is a charity that aimsto improve children’s mental health through movement, equipping them with sustainable, transferable skills and coping strategies to thrive during the complex demands of growth into adult life. They are now in receipt of a grant for £10,000 which will fund 10 primary schools to receive the SURGE programme providing training for crucial life skills to support mental and physical wellbeing.
Friends of St Peter’s - After its enormous success in 2023, £600 has been granted to St Peters Primary School to further fund Table Talk to provide food education presentations for 2 Year 4 classes.
These organisations are making a tangible difference in the lives of families, ensuring that children and young people receive the support they need. We are honoured to support their efforts and look forward to seeing the positive outcomes of their work in our communities.
